Paris. 1889. Impressionism turns the art world upside down. The bohemians crash the party. The venerable and stuffy Ecole des Beaux Arts and its staid annual exhibition, the Salon, no longer controls artistic standards or the taste of the public. Manet, Degas, and Monet are finally getting the recognition they deserve. Toulouse-Lautrec, Eric Satie, and Alfred Jarry are partying up in Montmartre, and the Post-Impressionists enter the fray. Absinthe is their drink of choice. It heightens their creativity, eases their misery, and makes them crazy.
The Absinthe Drinkers tells the story of stunning beautiful Artemisia, a talented young woman painter whose recognition is usurped by the prejudices of the male-dominated art scene of 19th century Paris and Florence.
